Vanishing

I entitled this exhibit “Vanishing” in fond memory of my mentor and friend, Lino Severino.

 

Lino used to paint old houses in Negros and other places in the Philippines that were disappearing. He wanted to record their beauty before they fell altogether into disrepair.

 

 He named these exhibits “The Vanishing Series”. 

 

Like Lino with his disappearing houses, I see many places 'disappearing', becoming less pristine and more populated. So, like Lino’s houses, it is harder to find quiet places unless one really isolates oneself. That is if any of us can even afford the time to do that these days.

 

Clean air, water, and quality of life are harder to achieve because of our human ‘needs’.

 

I don't depict people often in my paintings. We are thick enough on the skin of our planet as it is.

 

I like to show how the world looks when we are standing, or swimming in the background. 

 

It is still beautiful, even if it is vanishing.
